Greenhow (Captain ): an energetic and hard -working captain , most anxious for the success of the School and eleven ; a very good bat, but at times rather inclined to hit the ball up; has kept wicket throughout the season brilliantly . F. T. Griffith (Sec.) : not such a good bat as the preceding year, but nevertheless played some good innings at times ; apt to drop a catch ; bowls underhand. P. H. Flower : a good fast bowler, but rather uncertain in batting ; has a fine upright form, but has been unlucky ; has a safe pair of hands . G. W. Bulman : very neat bat with good back play ; as a bowler , effective at one time and expensive at another ; can field whenhe likes . E. A. Douglas : showeda lamentable falling off in his batting , but makes up for this deficiency by his excellent fielding ; very seldom drops a catch . G. H. Eyre : has obtained the average bat by someexcellent cricket ; one of his best innings -viz ., 87 v. Leeds GrammarSchool-was played without a chance ; is a good field . R. C. Wilton : a very disappointing bat, at one time showed great promise , but will not play with a straight bat ; he is a good long-stop . L. E. Stevenson : winner of the average bat for bowling ; on a dead wicket is most effective ; in two consecutive matches he took 22 wickets for 42 runs ; a hard hitting bat; captain for 1882. P. E. Lord: the most promising player of the eleven ; an excellent little bat, and plays the gamewith great care ; a good point; will bowl when he gets stronger ; sec. for 1882. W. E. Brookbank : very fair slow bowler on a wet wicket ; fielding is not his strong point ; as a bat played consistently well . H. W. Wood : has still very much to learn as abat ; has improved in his fielding ; bowls a good slow ball with break . T E M P L EG R O V ES C H O O L(E A S TS H E E N) . Captain for 1881 , T. W. Brand. T. W. Brand : as a captain managed his eleven fairly well , though he showed a want of judgment and decision on one or two occasions ; in this he wantsmoreexperience ; a good bat with long reach , plays we.l with nice " cut; " a good slow, round-armbowler, and bowled with great success in all the matches in which he took part (average ball 1881). *W. P. Richardson : abig and sensational hitter , without muchregard for form and style ; proved the mainstay of his side in batting in most of the matches; a good
