Birkbeck (Captain) : did not improve so much as was expected, though he possesses great power of hitting ; a fair out field , and bowls lobs . *A. M. Latham: played some capital innings ; a strong and useful but not overstylish batsman with a goodoff stroke ; the wicketkeeperof the eleven. *J. A. Davison: a con- sistently good bat ; capital field , especially at point ; can take the wicket . *H. L. Talbot : excellent field at cover -point , with quick and straight return ; weak bat . M. H. Milner : good bowler (medium left ) ; first -rate bat and field (Captain for 1882). F. A. Browning: at times a good bat , but variable ; has improved in the long-field . B. A. Newbury: fair bat ; slow between wickets and in the field . J. P. D u Cane : a very promising bat for next year ; weak in the field , especially in catching . Hawkins : a very good bowler (medium right ) ; reliable bat ; was unable to play during the beginning of the season owing to an accident . A. Е. J. Perkins : a promising fast bowler , but wants experience and practice ; fair bat. A. W.
