Dobinson (Captain 1881-82 ) : by far the best bat in the eleven , having good defence and hitting powers ; a capital field anywhere , but unsuccessful as a wicket -keeper . O. Grabham : a very successful fast bowler, with bumpyaction ; arungetting bat, hitting freely to the off ; winner of bowling average. W. S. R. M a y a pretty but uncertain bat, rather wanting in defence ; fair bowler ; poor in the field . E. M. Forbes : fielded brilliantly throughout the season ; with confidence wouldmake a fine player , as he keeps his bat straight and hits very hard. *H. M. Eddowes: came off in someof the foreign matches, but mustplay with more quickness and decision ; an energetic , though slow field . W. F. Jameson: a disappointing bat ; has a beautiful cut behind the wicket, and plays in pretty style , butdoes not get m a n yruns ; moderate in thefield. H .Buckley: a capital field anywhere, with a safe pair of hands; a much improved, though still very awkwardbat. E. H. D'Oyly: did not fulfil the expectations formed of him; musttry andget over his nervousness and put morepower into his play ; an uncertain field . E. F. Kearsey : careful with fair defence ; bowled steadily and well throughout the season , wants energy in the field . *A. Hanmer: bowled slow left , with good judgment of pace and pitch ; a field and poor bat. *H. G.
