Byass 10 wides and 1 no ball . R A D L E YELEVENIN 1881.-*S. H. Byass: a good though rather dis- appointing bat, and on his day an excellent fast bowler. H. N. Byass : a mediumpace bowler, and a good and careful bat ; should get plenty of runs next season , if he can develop a little more power in his hitting ; captain for 1882. G. H. Baker : a very useful mediumpace bowler and aneat long- stop ; a painstaking bat with good forward play, but his back play is un- certain . *A . Adams: would be a good bat if he could learn to stand still w h e nplaying back; a fast bowler, without muchpitch . W. H. Andrews: is too regardless of defence to be a safe bat, but would improve greatly with care ; a brilliant field at point . *J. Bradshaw: bats rather tamely, with the exception of his cutting , which is very hard and clean ; a safe but not brilliant field , and has been knownto bowl. H. L. Fife: bats carefully , but his hitting has not enough freedom and cleanness to punish loose bowl- ing. B. A. Bristowe : has been more successful as a change bowler than as a bat; is a fair field , with a quick return . R. F. Bristowe : bats without sufficient freedom, but has donesomeservice as a change bowler; rather slow in fielding . C. R. von Voigt : bowls too fast to pay attention to pitch and straightness ; has not donemuchin batting.
