Evelyn (Captain) : in batting has been the mainstay of the eleven , invariably playing the game with great patience , judgment, and determination ; has a very strong defence and cuts brilliantly ; a very straight medium-paced bowler , with considerable com- mandover the ball ; a magnificent field , picking up and returning the ball withwonderful certainty and rapidity . *H. W. Buck: has been a most useful member; is a dangerous bat, as he possesses a strong defence with considerable punishing powers , and has played several good innings , espe- cially in the early part of the season ; a good slow-bowler with high de- livery , and capital out-field . N. Morice : has a cramped but effective style of batting , cuts well, but is too fond of pulling balls off his wicket ; a fair medium-paced bowler, and a very active and certain field at short slip . 0. T. Pardoe: whenonce cet plays goodcricket , his hitting , especially to leg, being very clean ; a capital field , particularly in stopping hard returns . *C. R. B. Bryan: a strong bat, but too apt to hit balls up; greatly im- proved in fielding , and has become a very smart point , especially in secur- ing one-handed catches . *F. V. Surtees : an uncertain , but when once settled downis an effective and dargerous bat, getting runs rapidly , and hitting particularly hard to the off ; a good judge of a catch in the long- field , and throws in well . *J. W. Hussey : a strong left -handedbat , hitting very hard to leg , andplaying at times with great power; a fair field . H. C. Saville : a fair medium-paced bowler, very straight , and on his day is about the most difficult bowler in the eleven ; no bat at first , but improved of late ; a badfield . K. S. Barker: a slow left -hand bowler, and at times proved difficult to play ; a weakbat as to hitting powers, but not an easy wicket to bowl. A. C. Bamford: has disappointed as a bat. His style is too crampedto be effective , whilst he appears to have lost his powers of hitting to leg ; a good field . *H. A. Drew: a hard hitter , but very uncer- tain ; a good catch in the out-field ,
