F. Kemp a very fair bat , with good defence ; very smart in the field ; gave promise of being a first -rate bowler, but was disappointing . *E. M. Hadow: a bold fearless bat, hits very hard, and played a fine innings at Lord's ; a fast bowler ; and good field . *P. Н. Martineau : a disappointing bat with a very poor average ; did very little to keep up his reputation of last year ; a good field . * W. E. Bolitho : a very goodbat, unlucky at beginning of season , has good defence , and hits clean andhard; played well at Lord's ; a quick field . *G. H. Shakerley : the main- stay of the eleven in bowling; improved greatly in batting ; slowfield . J. E. A. Greatorex : a steady bat ; very often gets wickets ; fair field , with a tendency to drop a catch . *L. Routledge : a hard hitter , played muchbetter at beginning of season than at end ; very slow in the field ; a fast bowler. M.T. Baines : an uncertain bat, sometimes plays very well, and cuts prettily ; a very brilliant field at point ; sometimes gets wickets . *Hon. E. W. H. W a r d: a fair bat ; kept wicket well throughout the season . D .G. Spiro : a poor bat, not playing so well as he did last year ; a quick and dashing field . R. Moncreiffe : only played in two matches; bats steadily ; and proved a very useful bowler ; fields well ; ought to be of great use to the eleven next year whenhe gets stronger .
