Owen : a much improved batsman, but does not quite makethe most of his reach ; a splendid field withperfect return ; as captain , has been most successful , and has gained the esteem of all with whomhe has been associated . *C. W. Wright : a really first -class bat, with a fine free style and good punishing powers ; as wicket-keeper, proved of the greatest service to the eleven . * W. Lea: agoodbat, playing steadily till well set , and then hitting freely ; a safe field , and fair change bowler. E. P. Spurway: the prettiest bat in the eleven, his forward play being especially good ; can cut very well ; a brilliant field at long leg, and throws in capitally . *R. T. Rokeby: a fine bat, with a style of his own; whenwell set, hits very hard and clean , especially to the off ; a fair field . *C. A. Smith : a very steady fast bowler, always on the wicket , and at times very difficult to play ; a greatly im- proved bat and field . *A. M. Streatfeild : the best all -round m a nin the eleven; a goodbat with a fine free style , though a little too eager to hit ; a very fair slow bowler, and a splendid field anywhere. *F. L. Dames: a fair medium-pace bowler , but is not so good as he was at the beginning of the season ; a free bat, but not so quick in the field as he mightbe. W. N. Cobbold : a neat bat with good style ; can cut well ; a very quick field , with good return . *J. A. S. Fair : a painstaking bat , but plays back far too much; a splendid field with a safe pair of hands. T. W. Blenkiron : a difficult fast bowler , with a good deal of curl from the leg , though at times rather erratic in his pitch ; has made great improvement in his batting ; a fairfield
