Dewing: a first -class cricketer ; as good as any that Brighton has produced ; an excellent bat, rarely makes a mistake or fails to score ; a very painstaking and destructive headbowler and brilliant cover-point ; has had the honour of representing the Gentle- menof Sussex with marked success . W. M. Potter : has much improved as a bat; a brilliant and accurate cover-point. W . L e Maistre: m o r e successful both as a bat and field at the beginning of the season than at theend; poordefence ; punishes weak bowling and makesruns quickly when he gets them. A. B. Sangster : with more ease wouldhave madea useful bat; has on morethan one occasion saved the gameat a critical moment; shares the honours of the bowling department with Dewing, and with him played for the Sussex Gentlemen. T. W. Richardson : has often done good service by a patient and steady innings ; a fair field . R. H. Mellersh : a very promising young cricketer with a good defence ; a steady , straight , medium-paced round -arm bowler , who has at times done much execution . *W. S. B a x: better knownas a long-stop and out-field , in which posts he has done very well , than as a bat. *J. D.
