James Lillywhite's Cricketers' Annual 1882

T H EC O U N T I E SI N 1 8 8 1. 8 9 (6) Notts v. Yorkshire. Sheffield , Aug. 29, 30, 31, 1881. Shawand Shrewsbury were still absent , but otherwise the Nottingham eleven was as strong as it could be. Yorkshire too , with the exception of Allan Hill , was in full force , and everything augured well for a good game, with favourable surroundings . Unfortunately rain not only prevented any play at all on the second day, but more than once interfered with the game afterwards , and only an innings had been completed byeach side when timewasup. Notts hadan advantage of twenty runs as the gamewent, but the Yorkshire fielding was entirely to blame for this , as Selby (57) and Barnes (42), who put on 98 runs for Notts while they were together , ought bothtohavebeen caught early in their innings .
