(1) Middlesex v. Yorkshire. Huddersfield , August18, 19, 20, 1881. Middlesex was represented by an exceptionally strong Eleven , and thê match was singularly even throughout . Yorkshire gained an advantage in going in first , but failed to make much use of it , and it was only a little free hitting by the tail that enabled themto reach a total of 150. Auseful stand by Mr. Leslie (59) and the Hon. A. Lyttelton (42) gave Middlesex a lead of 33 runs on the first innings , and this was very near giving themthe victory . Lockwood(36), Grimshaw(35), and Emmett(31) helped Yorkshire to head their opponents by three runs, and Middlesex were left with three hours in which to make121 runs . Somevery fine all round cricket marked the conclusion of the game, but luck was a little against the Southerners at the crisis , and the Yorkshire bowling and fielding were alike so good that no one but Mr. Pearson , who carried out his bat for 24, made any lengthy stay , and Yorkshire won, after a very close finish , by 15 runs. Yorkshire 150 and153 ; total , 303. Middlesex , 183 and 105 ; total , 288. Mr. C. T. Studd (2ndinnings Yorkshire ) .. Overs. Maidens. R u n s. Wickets. 4 3 2 4 3 5 5 (2) Middlesexv. Notts. Nottingham, August 22, 23, 24, 1881. Withthe exception of Shaw and Shrewsbury Notts had all its forces , and as Middlesex was in full strength , an interesting game was expected . Rain prevented the delivery of a ball on the second day, but the cricket all
