But for the ill success of the eleven in the early -out matches against Derbyshire and Lancashire, whenluck was certainly much against them, K e n tmadea very good show throughout the season . Thedrawngame against Yorkshire at Huddersfield wouldcertainly have ended in a defeat ; butafter the 16th of June, the only occasion on which things went at all against them, wasin the return with Lancashire at Canterbury at the very endof the season-the only time on which they were beaten on their ownground. The victory obtained bythe Thirteen of Kentover England in the Canterbury week was an excellent performance ; but altogether the cricket shownby the county during 1880 showeda markedimprovementon any previous year of late , and, with some promising professional colts , Kent is undeniably looking up.
