Brighton , August 23, 24, 1880 . Sussex was very poorly represented in this return match , and Derby- shire had an easy victory . H o wthe home team were dismissed on a true wicket for 45 it is difficult to explain , even in the face of the good bowling of Mycroft and Hay, but they were all out in an hour and ten minutes . Charlwood scoring 18 out of 45. Loose fielding enabled Derbyshire to reach a long total of 226 (Mr. Shuker, 55), and whenan innings was com- pleted they were 181 runs to the good. Another good score of 67 by Charl- wood, and eight double figures in addition , helped Sussex to save the innings by 30 runs ; but this number gave the Northerners little trouble , andthey w o nbynine wickets . Kent was again not well represented in the absence of the brothers Penn and Mr. Jones; but the Derbyshire batting was so tamethat the result was never in doubt. There were ten extras in Derbyshire's first innings of 55 ; and a stand madeby Hay (29) and Mr. Barrington (26) in the second, with Mycroft's bowling, werethe only redeeming features of the Northerners' play.
