Awelcome novelty for the Whitsuntide frequenters at Lord's , whohad becomesatiated with the wearisome repetition of North and South, which hadfigured in the Maryleboneprogrammefor so manyyears. Atthe com- mencementit was thought that the England Eleven would hardly be strong enough for the American team, but though Mr. Evans, Rylott , Barlow, Mr. Lucas and Midwinter represented the whole attack of the side , Englandhad a little the best of the game throughout . Messrs. A. P. Lucas(66 and 0), and J. Shuter (23 and 42), did mostof the execution for England; but another feature of the first innings should not be ignored- that of Scotton and Pilling -who added 59 runs for the last wicket ; Scotton taking out his bat for an excellent score of 41, not out. Mr. Evans, the Oxford University fast bowler frightened most of the Americans in their first attempt, except Selby (50), and he just failed to secure all 10 wickets , Pinder, the last batsman, being caught from Rylott. England w o nby 94 runs. England, 212 and 125 ; total , 337. Daft's Eleven, 149 and94 ; total , 243. Mr.Evans(1st innings , Daft's Eleven) .........
