OnMonday, October 4, the day prior to their departure from London the opportunity was seized both by their own countryman and the chief magistrate of the City of London, to do themhonour . At a luncheon given at the Holborn Viaduct , presentation of cups subscribed for by the leading Australian Colonists in England, was made by the Hon. F. T. Sargood , a member of the Legislative Council of Victoria . Each of the thirteen members of the team was presented with a handsome solid silver tankard , appropriately inscribed , while to Mr. Murdoch was given , in addition , a massive silver loving -cup , weighing 100 ounces , and bearing the following inscription : Presented by the Hon. F. T. Sargood, on behalf of a number of Colonists in England, to Mr. W. L. Murdoch, Captain of the Australian Eleven, visiting England season 1880 , in recognition of his splendid display of cricket at the Oval, in the match All Englandv. Australia .' Thesame evening, a banquet was given in their honour by the Lord Mayor at the Mansion House, at which Lord Harris and upwards of two hundred gentle- m e nwere present , including several influential officials connected with the C o l o n i e s. In proposing the Australian Team of Cricketers , the Lord Mayor said , H e desired , on the part of the city of London , to give to these gentlemen a cordial welcome.
