Did good service for his county last season ; is a good and steady batsman, but requires a little more con- fidence whenfirst going in ; can bowl slow round -arm. W A L S H, G. (Rugby). A very patient player , has good defence and cuts well ; is also a capital long-stop . W O O D, R. (Liverpool ). A real good and useful player , but unfortunately has not the time to render the county much service ; is a left -hand batsmanand bowler, and excels in both. STEEL, A. G. , and O. P. Lancashire (Cambridge ), play for Lancashire . M I D D L E S E X . BULPETT, C. W. (Rugbyand Oxford) : bowls very fast round-arm, but not always on the spot ; can hit. BUCKLAND, F. M. (Eton and Oxford ) : a very useful man all round ; did not represent the county in 1880. COTTRELL, C. E. (Harrow) : a useful all -round player ; scores freely at times ; an effective change bowler (fast -round). FORD, W. J. (Repton and Cambridge ) : a powerful hitter , greatly excel- ling in forward drives ; was hardly so successful as in 1879. FRANCIS, A. S.: a batsmanwith plenty of hit ; ought to be of use to county. FRANCIS, C. K. (Rugbyand Oxford) : at times a very successful round- armbowler, but has lost muchof his spin ; has given up first -class cricket. G R E E N, C. E. (Uppinghamand Cambridge) : an effective bat, with great certainty of hitting all -round ; a good long -stop ; did not play any first -class cricket last year. H A D O W, . H. (Harrowand Oxford) : bowls slow round-arm, very straight , with goodpitch ; a pretty and effective bat against the best bowling. HENERY, P. T. (Harrow and Cambridge ): bats in neat style ; at times useful as a bowler (slow round) ; smart field . LYTTELTON, Hon. ALFRED (Eton and Cambridge ) : one of the foremost cricketers of the day; the best amateurwicket -keeper without a doubt, standing up well and rarely misses a chance ; a very dangerous bats- man, having defence as well as hitting powers ; played for England v. A u s t r a l i a. LYTTELTON, Hon. E. (Eton and Cambridge ) : a fine free -hitting bat , very dangerous when well set ; a good field near the wicket . PEARSON, T. S. (Rugbyand Oxford) : a run-getting bat, and played some very fine innings during the season ; can field well anywhere ; and his bowling, though not first -rate , is at times very effective . ROBERTSON, J.: a straight fast bowler with high delivery , and was ofgreat service to the county. SCOTT, S. W.: possesses a strong defence, and is a brilliant field ; played rarely last season. STRATFORD, A. H. (Malvern) : a useful m a nall -round ; a free -hitting bat at times; an effective slow round-a r mbowler; a n da goodfield . STUDD, J. E. K.
