A fine bat , playing in fine style and hitting with great freedom, hardly ever failed to score for Kentin 1880; a splendid field anywhere. Was Captain. of the England Eleven v. Australia at O v a l K E M P. M. C. (Harrow and Oxford ). Kept wicket for the county at the end of last season , and was useful in that department; did not do much w i t hthe b a t. MACKINNON, F. A. (Harrow and Cambridge ). A steady and safe bat ; and aquickfield. PENN, A. A good slow left -hand round -arm bowler , with plenty of judg- ment; moderate bat; good field ; did not play muchfor county . PENN, F. One of the very best amateur batsmen of the day, having plenty of defence and very great hitting power; a good and safe field . BLIGH, Hon. IVO , JONES, R. S. (Cambridge ) and PATTERSON, W. H. (Oxford ), playfor Kent. L A N C A S H I R E . APPLEBY, A. A good left -hand bowler , with capital pace and very straight ; also an improved bat, and safe catch ; played but seldom for his county during the past season . BIRD, G. (Liverpool ). A really goodbatsman, but we are sorry he does not represent his county a little more; played only in one match last s e a s o n . B U T T E R W O R T H, W. E. (Castleton ). A good bat and field ; but did not represent his county last season . CHADWICK, E. L. (Castleton ). A capital batsman with good defence , cuts very neatly , and hits to leg well ; is also a good field . H O R N B Y, A. N. (Harrow). Still maintains his position as highest average scorer for his county ; a brilliant batsman,having fine defence combined with great punishing powers ; a splendid field , and certain catch ; and canbowlwith either arm; played in all county matches in 1880. JACKSON, E. Is still a good wicket -keeper , but does not now play for his county ; resides at Huyton, where he at times gives that club the benefit of his services . KERSHAW, I. E. A very good batsman, but did not score so well during the past season ; requires a little more energy in the field . LEESE, E. (Manchester ). A very good bat indeed , especially on a lively ground; is also a capital field . MILLER, H. (Liverpool ). Another useful all -round player ; can bat, bowl , a n dfield well. OPENSHAW, W. E. (Harrow). A very neat and careful bat , and frequently makesgood scores ; is also a good field at cover-point. P A L M E R, S. A good bat and field , but does not comeoff in county matches. PATTERSON, W. S. (Uppingham and Cambridge ). Is still a good bat and bowler, but seldom plays now. ROWLEY, E. B. A good batsman and drives well , especially to the off ; also capital long-stop ; played in most county matches in 1880. ROYLE, V. (Rossall and Oxford ). A very useful manfor his county , being an effective and much improved batsman ; is also a brilliant field , especially at cover-point ; can bowl slow round-arm whenrequired . SCHULTZ, S. S. (Uppingham). Did not play for his county last season ; is a useful all -round m a n; can bat, bowl, and field well.
