Casswell : a magni- ficent bat, possessing strong defence and great hitting powers; his slow under-handbowling was, as usual , the mainstay of the eleven . A. E. King: m a d ea mostenergetic and painstaking captain ; obtained the PeekCupfor the highest average amongthe boys; a splendid field . R. Brooks : a stylish bat, but not so successful as he ought to have been been, owing to hiswantofdetermination ; a splendid wicket -keeper, and a safe field ;has left . A. F. L. Pattison : a very steady bat , but fell off during the season , losing his power of getting runs , but improved very muchat the end; acapital field at all times. W. L. Powell: not stylish as a bat, but sometimes successful ; a goodchange fast bowler, with a low delivery ; not always safe in the field . Rev. A. W. Callis : a punisher of loose bowling, but did not have enough of it to obtain a good average ; an energetic field at point ; occasionally takes the wicket. F. C. Nichols : promised well at first , but fell off after- wards; not active as a field ; has left . H. R. Whitworth; fair bat, but requiring more hitting powers ; a moderate change slow bowler . C. D. Oldershaw : showed fair promise as a bat at one time, but fell to pieces at the end; lacks energy in the field . S. Skelton possesses great hitting powers , but seldom exhibited them except in practice ; the other bowler of the eleven , and at times most destructive , his chief performance being against Whitgift School (first innings ), bowling eight wickets for no runs .
