Tristram : very safe bat to any bowling ; got his double in sixteen consecutive matches, and excellent judge of a run; can field anywhere ; nearly first -rate at point . D. J. Macfarlan : perhaps the best bowler in the eleven at the end of season ; slow , with great break , but not straight enough ; brilliant bat , especially to leg ; improved in fielding and judgment of runs . A. G. G. Asher : very good m a nall round, but fell off in batting towards end of season. C. W. Berry : almost absolutely straight slow bowler , but rather plain ; good field and improving bat. J. J. Johnson : sometimes a destructive fast bowler, notably against Rossall and Fettes , but apt to pitch short ; a fair field , and dis- appointing bat. G. Lindsay : free bat, with a good eye ; fine field as long- leg. C. Kinloch : Steady bat, but not very successful ; sure and good field . H. F. Caldwell : did not come up to his promise in batting ; has played several useful innings ; sometimes brilliant in the field , but un- certain . J. A.
