D o n-Wauchope. 5 3 9 3 3 2 0 6 1 4 14-10 T H EFETTESELEVENIN 1880.-J. Steel : should develop into a really goodbat, having good form, and hitting well to all parts of the field ; not patient enough , and consequently apt to succumb to an ordinary ball ; a good point , and capital judge of the game; worked very hard as captain . A. R. Don- Wauchope : a great punisher of loose bowling , lacks style and defence ; a splendid cover-point , being a certain catch with sharp and sure return , and always saving runs by his pace ; moderate slow bowler . R. A. Carruthers : fell off very much in his batting ; will never be really good till he stands still and utilises his reach ; at times bowls fairly , but aims too muchat speed ; can field well , andis a goodcatch . W. M. Duncan: has a fine , free , style of batting , but no patience or judgment; with atten- tion to defence , might become really good ; on his day a successful fast bowler with a good break ; slow in the field . G. F. Campbell : cuts prettily , and occasionally plays well ; a good long -leg , returning the ball well ; not a good catch . W. M. Macleod: hits hard, but lacks style and defence. A. C. K a y: very uncertain ; at time sbats well, hitting hard and playing forward well, though never straight enough; is a promising medium-pace bowler , with a puzzling delivery . W. D. Sellar : a very safe and patient bat, invaluable as a stopper of panics ; lacks offensive power, especially on the off-side ; very slow in the field . E. W. M. Norie : a good field , especially at long -leg , though not quite fast enough ; occasionally bats very fairly , but rarely shows the full face of his bat. F. H. G. Playfair : at times a very difficult school bowler , bowling fast , far -pitched -up'Yorkers ,' with a decided curl in the air ; promises to improve as a bat ; poor field ; G. Hardyman: a steady bat and hard hitter with a style of his own. should improve very muchwith coaching ; a slow field .
