Lees : a good all -round player ; as a bat he has a very strong defence, and hits well to leg ; a splendid field at cover-point, and a very good change bowler ; he made a very good captain . *C. Martineau : did not come up to what was expected of him ; as a bat he has splendid style , with a very long reach , and can hit well, but is very short of confidence ; at the beginning of the season he bowled with great success , but failed to keep it up ; a good field . *P. A. Eccles : a very goodplayer , but at times his bat is not quite straight ; rather slack in the field ; a good change bowler. A. Rotherham: as a bat promises to be good, hits well and hard at all points ; a splendid field anywhere; can bowl (captain for 1881 ). *P. E. Power : a very hard hitter ; often makes runs fast off good bowling , but does not play with his bat quite straight ; a change bowler . J. A. Turner : a useful player all round, being a good bat ; plays very straight , but rather slack in hitting ; a good straight bowler, with plenty of head work; a good field . *S. Christopherson : bats very well at times , and can hit hard if bowling is loose ; a good fast bowler, with high delivery . S. Field : rather too fond of playing forward; w ehope to see more of him next year ; rather slack in the field . *J. Leigh : has a good style of batting , but short of confidence in matches ; a good field . *J. Leach : promised to be a very good bat at the beginning of the season , but did not practice , in consequence of which , he fell off at the end; very slack in the field . *C. E.
