Cobb : keeps wicket for the eleven , often very brilliantly ; a punishing bat, but wants stronger defence to become first -rate . * F. H. Bowden-Smith : on his day is a good mediumbowler , keeping very straight , and breaking back slightly ; has poor defence as a bat, but can hit hard ; good field at point . H. W. Cave: canhit very hard whenwell set , but is rather shaky at first ; a good field at cover-point . * W. P. Ward: a good all -round cricketer ; as a bat has beautiful style , and can generally be relied upon for runs ; turned out to be an effective bowler, and can field anywhere. * S. H. Walrond: a weak bat with poor defence ; moderate bowler and field . E. H. Kempson : has not improved as much as was expected ; is too fond of playing forward ; a good field at cover-point . *A. L. Melly: good bat and ought to improve; good field . *J. M. Scott : very fair bat with pretty style , and cuts very well . H . T. Arnall: an effective and useful slow left -hand bowler, and by next year ought to be good; poor bat and field . *P. L.
