Wilson (captain of the eleven) : this year for the second time has filled his post excellently ; as a bat , is worthfar moreruns than he got, having an exceedingly clean hit and neat cut ; a most reliable field , as a long -stop has hardly let a bye this season . * W. H. Bather : a very safe andpretty bat, combining perfect style with very strong defence , hits capitally to all parts of the field , especially on the off-side , his cutting being particularly brilliant : very quick in the field anda safe catch . A. C. Wratislaw : has fallen off this year in bowling, but is still good on his day ; a poor though improving bat ; very bad in the field . *A. E. Browning : a most reliable bat , hitting very hard andwell on the on-side , with obstinate defence ; seldom failed to score ; a very effective fast bowler , straight , with plenty of pace and good break -back ; a good field and catch . C. P. Wilson : has shown a great improvement this year ; has batted steadily and successfully throughout the whole season , having a very stubborn defence with good leg -hitting ; sharp at the wicket , and fairly safe . *J. A. Scott : a fast bowler with an unusual high delivery , straight and good length , at times very difficult ; has played one or two goodinnings, but on the whole was not successful as a bat. *H. C. Cham- bers : has fallen off this year in batting , though in two or three innings has shownhis old form; a quick field and catch . *E. L. Griffiths : has showna uniform steadiness in batting throughout , has a good defence , and hits well to the on ; a dashing field and sure catch. *T. C. Hunt the best field in the eleven , being safe and wonderfully quick at cover -point and long -leg ; a strong bat and a free hit, though too fond of a pull. *H. K. Bather : when on the spot is a really good bowler , slow left with puzzling break- back; a free and pretty bat, but at times rash . *A. H. Richardson : a. straight bat , with fair defence and limited hitting powers ; a useful change bowler, left -hand with high delivery .
