Whitworth (captain ): agood bat, with great hitting powers; reliable anywhere in the field ; a good fast left -hand bowler. * W. G. Baker : an excellent bat, combining steady defence with free hitting ; very good at point . *A. L. Bristowe : a good steady bat ; hits well, and defends his wicket in capital style ; a good slow bowler, with a great break ; is safe , if not brilliant , in the field . S. H. Byass : somewhat unlucky, and disappointing as a bat ; sharp in the field , and a good catch ; a first -rate fast bowler ; captain for 1881. H. N. Byass : playsays in very good form, and is always steady ; bowled well at the beginning of the season , but fell off in the middle ; a very fair wicket -keeper. *L. Andrews: disappointing as a bat ; has fielded very well at times , but is uncertain . G. H. Baker : has surprised us in matches, as he generally came off , indeed he seemed to reserve his batting powers for them; a goodlong-stop, and shows promise as a bowler. A. Adams: Bats freely , but has played better in gamesthan matches; will probably be useful as a fast bowler; a fair field . W. H. Andrews: did good service as a long-stop ; and, consider- ing his diminutive size , batted extremely well ; a sharp field . F. Bradshaw: can hit well , but should practice defence more ; a poor field .
