Oliver : a free left -h a n d bat , with good style , strong defence and good hitting powers ; a good field at cover-point , wants dash and a quicker return ; does not play an uphill gamewell ; played for Sussex . W. C. Tonge : a very steady safe bat, with strong defence ; improved in style ; cuts and hits well to leg , and occasion- ally shows great driving powers ; a good point ; always keen and energetic in the game; played for Gloucestershire . H. Clowes : a good wicket -keeper , being quick and safe ; a hard hitting bat , and plenty of vigour ; requires patience . H. Cooke : a left -handhitter , with little defence or style ; aptto beslack in the field . C. Brown: a very fair bat, playing in neat style ; a very safe field with good return , and a safe catch ; a medium-paced bowler . T. J. Llewellin : left -handedbowler, rather above medium, unsteady and erratic , but successful at times when on the spot ; a moderate left -hand bat; a goodfield . R. Muir: bats in very nice form, with good forward play, and cuts well ; played some very good innings during the season ; plays better to fast bowling than to slow. M. Boyd: a useful slow- medium right -hand bowler , but too impatient of being hit ; straight , but not sufficiently accurate in pitch ; a fair bat, wanting in freedom and wrist- play, and does not hit with a straight bat. F. Walker : a fair bat, hits hard, but is too fond of a pull ; can keep wicket fairly . O. G. Jevers : a fair bat ; a safe , quick field , with good return . G. P. Pemberton did not play till late in the season ; a straight medium-paced bowler; good length , and quick off the ground; moderate bat ; good field . G. Greenway: a very promising bat, playing in good form, and with plenty of force ; cuts well ; played some good inningslate in the season ; a moderate field ; twelfth i n a n.
