Ivo Bligh (Eton and Trinity ) : played splendidly for his University , as his average shows ; has almost the best ' cut' in England, and always sure of runs on a fast wicket ; one of the very best long -fields in England ; an unfailing catch . H. E. Whitfeld (Eton and Trinity ): has an admirable defence ; but was hardly so successful as in pre- vious years ; a very good, safe , and untiring field . A. F. J. Ford(Reptonand King's ) : a really useful bowler , medium-pace with high delivery , and very dangerous on a slow wicket ; a very fine hitter , but does not always select the right ball . P. H. Morton (Rossall and Trinity ) : bowled very effectively ; has a break-back almost unequalled amongfast bowlers, professional or amateur ; in batting not quite so successful as in previous years ; played for Gentlemen v. Players at Oval. R. S. Jones (Trinity ) : is a really finished batsman , with fine defence and hitting ; played some fine innings for Kent, notably in the Canterbury week, but washardly so successful as might have been expected for Cambridge . G. B. Studd (Eton and Trinity ) : the best field in the eleven , and cameout in his true formwith the bat ; played two very fine innings against Oxford. C. T. Studd (Eton and Trinity ) : one of the best all -round m e nin the eleven ; a reliable bat, getting his runs in good style ; at times very effective as a bowler (slow- round); good field ; played fine cricket in second innings of University match. O. P. Lancashire (Lancingand Jesus) : a fine field and a sure catch ; plays good cricket , and usually gets a fair score . C. W. Foley (Eton and King's ) : kept wicket well throughout the season ; not successful bat . C. P. Wilson (Marlborough and Trinity ) : fully justified his choice by the good cricket he showed in the University match, getting double figures each innings ; at times effective as a bowler.
