The first Yorkshire wicket (Ulyett's ) fell at 33, and the innings was over for just double the number ; the last six wickets falling in half anhour, for nine runs . Hallwasin two hours for seventeen . Lockwood playedby far the best cricket of the match for his second score of 43, not out; andbut for somemistakes at the crisis , Yorkshire might have won. As it was, it cost Notts eight wickets to make53 , and the victory of the home teamwasa narrow one by two wickets . There were ten ' duck's eggs ' in the match. A sensational contest , disagreeably noteworthy for Surrey , who in their first innings earned the notoriety of being dismissed for 16 , the smallest score ever madein a county match. Of these, nine weremadeby one batsman (Read), three by Pooley , two by Mr. Lucas, one by Jupp, and one was a leg- bye, so that there were only 15 from the bat. Notts hadall the best of the wicket in going in first ; and though Surrey , in their second attempt showed up better , it was almost unplayable for Morley's bowling . There werenine double figures in the 266 madebyNotts ; and Daft's 47 was the highest score of the match. Morley's bowling in the first innings of Surrey was a curiosity .
