Lord Skelmersdale , Sir R. A. Cross , M.P. , the Right Hon. the Earl of Ellesmere , O. O. Walker, Hugh Birley , A. B. Rowley , R. N. Phillips ,M. P. , J. A. Bannerman . Hon. Secretary , S. H. Swire . Hon. Treasurer , Jas. MacLaren. Assistant Secretary and Collector , F. Reynolds , County Ground, Stretford , Lancashire . Com- mittee , Messrs . A. N. Hornby, C. G. Hulton , W. E. Openshaw , W. Brierley , J. R. Hay-Gordon , J. R. Hillkirk , E. B. Rowley , Ernest Wolff , RogerWalker, E. Challender, S. Field, Thos. T. Bellhouse , and Sam P l a t t. Lancashire , though fairly successful in 1880 , was not able to boast the same record as in 1879, when only one match was lost . Withits best eleven , by which we mean, Messrs . Hornby,Appleby , the two Steels , Messrs . Royle , Wood, Taylor , and Robinson , Barlow, Nash, and Watson, Lanca- shire ought to be very formidable , both in batting and bowling ; but the county is rarely able to get its best team, and this was generally the case during the past season . William McIntyre , the fast bowler who had done such good service for Lancashire in previous years , was tried in the early matches , but he was not as deadly as of old , and later on he was shunted . Mr. Hornbywas successful with the bat, if not quite to the same extent as in former years ; and his old comrade , Barlow , also did not prove so effective with the bat , though very often of great assistance with the ball . Mr. A. G. Steel , played very rarely for the county ; while , owing to an accident , his brother D. Q. , was not able to appear at all ; and Mr. R. Wood, anold Carthusian , who would havebeenvery useful , could only figure in one county match. Robinson, a professional , whowas once tried andafterwards discarded by Yorkshire , proved an acquisition to the batting strength of the side ; and in bowling , Nash, slow left -round , who is sure to be very dangerous on a slow wicket , will help the county materially . Besides there are two useful young professionals in Briggs and Horrocks , so that there is no lack of promising talent at the disposal of the executive .
