H a r r o w . Lord's , July 11 , 12, 1879 . One of the most unsatisfactory Public School matches that we have had to record for manyyears . Fine weather on the first day gave hopes of a game begun and finished without rain , the more that the two elevens seemed to be very evenly balanced . Unfortunately the expectations of the Friday were rudely dispelled on the Saturday , and the match dragged its slow length along with frequent interruptions , manyof them very unnecessarily protracted , until at last the stumps were drawn, leaving a game that might well have been finished , drawn in a most unsatisfactory state . The Harrow Captain won the toss , and , acting on the belief that the weather and wicket were likely to im- prove , not unwisely sent the Etonians to the wickets . The more was so far successful that the Light Blues were all dismissed for 99 ; but in their turn
