James Lilllywhite's Cricketers' Annual 1880

THE M A R Y L E B O N ECLUB IN 1879.1 5 9 failure . Throughout , the advantage was with Cambridge , and the batting of Oxford was without doubt the weakest seen in an inter -university match for manyyears , though on neither side was the play up to the highest standard . Every one was pleased to see Mr. A. H. Heath , who had previously been singularly unsuccessful in this match, at last give the Cantabs a taste of his masterly style , but otherwise the Oxford batting was very tame . Mr. A. G. Steel , Hon. A. Lyttelton , Whitfeld , and D. Q. Steel , together contributed all but twenty runs in the first innings of Cambridge , and to the first -named most of the honours of an easy victory are to be ascribed . There was no play on the second day, owing to rain , bly most D O X F O R D . H. R. Webbe (Winchester ) c Jones b emoe D. Q. Steel b Ford W o o d............... 1 8 A. H.
