Marylebone had quite a second -rate eleven both in batting and bowling , with only Mr. Stratford Rylott and Flowers , of any use in the latter capacity , and but two first -class batsmen in Mr. Vernon and Flowers . The ground was all against run-getting , and there was less surprise in Sussex being dismissed for such small totals as 75 and 38, than in their allowing such a batting side as that of M.C.C. to reach an aggregate of 187. Rev. C. C. Ewbank, after some years ' absence from the county team , reappeared and played well for his score of 23, but there were only three double figures in the two innings of Sussex , and all round the play was singularly feeble . M.C.C. won by an innings and 74 runs . M.C.C. and Ground, 187 ; Sussex , 75 and 38 ; total 113 . J r dFlowers (M.C.C.) ...
