BOX, THOMAS W. (Sussex ). Son of the old Sussex wicket -keeper , died of rapid consumption on June 30. BURGOYNE, THOMAS. Died at Limpsfield , Surrey, on October 12, 1879. Becamea memberof the Marylebone Club in 1835, and was elected treasurer of that body in 1866, holding that post at the time of his death . CÆSAR, DICK (Surrey ). Elder brother of Julius Cæsar . Died at Godalming , aged 60, in March 1879. Lately acted as umpire to local team, though in formertimes anexcellent bat. DURANT, R. Died on April 1, after a short illness , at Mr. Austen Leigh's House, Eton. W a smemberof the Eton Eleven of 1879 ; a splendid field , good change bowler , but weak bat . This was the only death at Eton for seven y e a r s. GRIFFITH , GEORGE , Old Ben ' (Surrey ). Put an end to his life on May3, at Malt-house Lane, Stoke , near Guildford , during a fit of temporary insanity , caused by despondency of mind. Was born at Ripley , December 20, 1833 . On August 29, 1864 , he made 4 sixes off 1 over (4 balls ), for U.S.C.C. v. 22 of Hastings , out of the ground each time . Was a fine left -hand bowler , a very hardhitter , and a goodfield . KING, GEORGE KELLY. Died at Croydon in August, 1879. A cricket reporter of considerable influence ; first connected with Sporting Life ,' but had been for manyyears previous to his death representative of most of the London daily papers . KNIGHT , W. H. Died on August 17, in London . Was an able and most accurate compiler of cricket records as well as a faithful reporter of the game. In turn connected with Sporting Gazette ,' ' Sportsman ,' and ' Sporting Life ; ' for manyyears editor of Wisden's Almanack.' LEWIN, GEORGE. W a smanyyears secretary to Tower Hamlets C.C. , and an energetic cricketer . Died on April 1, after only a short illness . MORTIMER, HENRY. The treasurer and oldest member almost of Surrey C.C. Died suddenly on June 3 at Buckingham Palace Hotel ; was 70 years of age , and had been for 25 of these treasurer of the Surrey County Club , whichwas indebted to him for manyacts of kindness . MORTLOCK, THOMAS . Brother of William Mortlock , the famous old Surrey professional . Above the average of players , at one time, a great lover of the game. Died in a fit of apoplexy during funeral ceremonial of Mr. E. J. Page in LowerNorwood Cemetery, November19, 1879 . PAGE, EDWARDJAMES. The founder of the celebrated bat and ball manu- facturing firm hearing his name. Died at 63 Clapham Road, London , on November13, in his 61st year. PATTENDEN , W. (Sussex ).
