A good wicket -keeper , standing well up to fast bowling , and taking on either side ; a moderate bat ; did not play for county in 1879. AKROYD, S. H. (Radley ). A brilliant batsman , and very difficult to dismiss if allowed to get set ; a safe field ; did not play for the county in 1879 . BRAY, E. (Westminster and Cambridge ). A good slow round -arm bowler ; has not played lately for the county . CLARKE, C. C. A splendid field ; at times successful as a slow round -arm bowler, and plays in good form. CLARKE, M. C. A very steady bat ; fair field . GAME, W. H. (Sherborne and Oxford ). Only played once for county ; a fine Jo long field , and a batsman with a style of his own, but hits hard, and is very dangerous if allowed to get set . LINDSAY , W. (Winchester ). A good bat, with a very pretty cut ; a splendid field , and a sure catch . LUCAS , A. P. (Uppingham and Cambridge ). Did not play so much for the county as could have been wished ; one of the very best players of the day, plays correct and admirable cricket in perfect style ; a useful slow round-armbowler, and a fine field . READ, W. W. A patient bat, with hit when wanted , and a safe field ; one of the best amateur cricketers of the day. SHUTER , J. (Winchester ). A pretty bat , playing hard on the off -side ; played some very fine innings for county , and was especially useful to eleven throughout ; a splendid field . SHUTER, L. A. Was very effective with the bat, playing good cricket ; throughout a very useful man, being also a fine field . STRACHAN, G. (Cheltenham). One of, if not the most brilliant amateur fields- men of the day ; bowls slow round with a high delivery , and was very effective on several occasions ; unfortunately was not able to play in - August owing to an injured hand , and the county suffered greatly in con- sequence. W Y L D, W. G. (Dulwich). A promising young cricketer ; a steady bat with no lack of hit; wantsdashin the field . S U S S E X . ANSTRUTHER , A. (Royal Artillery ). A useful bat , hitting well all round ; active field ; could not play for the county in 1879. COTTERILL , J. M. (Brighton ). One of the very best cricketers of his day ; is married and in regular practice at Edinburgh ; will probably play no m o r e. ELLIS, R. T. (Brighton College ). A really good bat and field , but could not play in 1879. GOLDSMITH, G. Might be serviceable to the county ; a fast right -hand round- arm bowler , and on his day very effective ; good field . GREENFIELD , Rev. F. J. (Cambridge ). A very good all -round cricketer ; a splendid field at point , and a useful slow round -arm bowler ; fell off greatly in his batting last season . LUCAS , M. P. (Harrow, &c.). A good bat , field , and fast bowler ; we hope to see him in the county team next season SCLATER , A. Being very tall , with a very high delivery , he is a most puz-
