One of the best amateur batsmen of the day, having fine defence with great certainty of hitting all -round ; a good long-stop . Did not play muchfirst -class cricket last year. HADOW, W. H. (Harrow and Oxford ). Bowls slow round -arm, very straight , with good pitch ; a pretty and effective bat against the best bowling . HENDERSON, R. (Harrow). A medium-pace bowler with high delivery ; hard # h i t t e r. LYTTELTON , Hon. E. (Eton and Cambridge ). A fine free -hitting bat, very dangerous when well set ; a good field near the wicket . PEARSON , T. S. (Rugby and Oxford ). A run -getting bat ; can field well any- where ; and his bowling , though not first -rate , is at times very effective ; was not quite so successful in 1879 as in previous year. ROBERTSON , J. A straight fast bowler with high delivery , and was of great service to the county. RUTTER, E. (Rugby). A slow left -hand round -arm bowler , and has done the county great service ; is a good field ; and better bat than his scores imply . Didnot play for the county in 1879 . SALMON, E. M. Keeps wicket very fairly ; and a very dangerous bat if the bowling is not quite first -rate . SCOTT, S. W. Possesses a strong defence , and is a brilliant field . Not able to play for Middlesex in 1879.boog out gu STRATFORD , A. H. (Malvern ). A useful man all -round ; a free hitting bat at times ; an effective slow round -arm bowler ; and a good field ) паль THORNTON, C. I. (Eton and Cambridge ). Still the hardest hitter in England , but not so certain as formerly ; is apt to be lazy in the field ; plays for Middlesex by residence . TURNER, M. (Cheltenham ). A good wicket -keeper ; and at times bats to some account ; played very little last season . VERNON, G. F. (Rugby). Another very useful man ; very fine out -field , with a sure pair of hands ; and generally manages to leave his mark on the scoring sheet. WALKER, I. D. (Harrow ). One of the very best all -round cricketers ; being a fine batsman , with a talent for hitting on the off-side ; and a truly irre- proachable field , especially at mid-off ; a good captain and excellent judge ofthe game. WALKER, R. D. (Harrow and Oxford ). Has not figured so much in prominent matches of late ; a very clever slow round -arm bowler ; and a run -getting bat in his own style . WALKER, V. E. (Harrow ). The best judge of the game extant ; as a captain has no equal ; and is still a brilliant field in any position ; and a most effective b a t s m a n. WEBBE, A. J. (Harrow and Oxford ). Usually to be relied on for runs against the best bowlers , has excellent defence , and at times hits well ; a safe field. LYTTELTON , Hon. A. , STUDD , G. B. , and FORD, A. F.
