A punishing batsman and fast run -getter ; having journeyed South , plays with Incogs ., good field at point . OPENSHAW, W. E. (Harrow). A very neat and careful bat, and frequently makesgood scores ; is also a good field at cover -point . PALMER, S. A new aspirant to county honours ; bats in good form, and punishes loose bowling whenhe has a chance , drives well ; and is a good field anywhere. PATTERSON , W. S. (Uppingham and Cambridge ). Is still a first -class bat ; and good slow bowler ; did not represent his county so much as his friends wouldwish during the past season . ROWLEY, E. B. A good batsman and drives well , especially to the off ; also capital long-stop ; played in all county matches in 1879 . ROYLE, V. (Rossall and Oxford ). Ranks among the best amateurs of the day ; a very effective and much improved batsman; is also a brilliant field , especially at cover -point ; can bowl slow round-arm whenrequired . SCHULTZ, S. S. (Uppingham). Did not play for his county last season , never- theless is a useful all-round m a n; canbat, bowl, and field . TAYLOR, F. (Clifton and Castleton ). A very good bat indeed , and when well set shows fine cricket , playing the good ones and punishing the bad ones ; a useful manfor his county. WALSH, G. (Rugby). A very patient player , has good defence and cuts well ; is also a capital long-stop . STEEL, A. G. , and STEEL , D. Q. (Cambridge ). Play for Lancashire . L E I C E S T E R S H I R E . CROFT, A. W. S. Acautious and promising bat ; works hard in the field . HAY, W. H. Combines a graceful and finished style with thorough patience , andreliable field . MARRIOTT , C. (Winchester and Oxford ). A very fine all -round cricketer , being good at every point ; bats in neat style , and is an excellent field . MARRIOTT , G. S. (Winchester and Oxford ). A powerful bat ; a fast bowler , occasionally destructive . PERKINS , J. A fine hitter ; fast change bowler (left -handed ). STAINTON , R. W. G. (Harrow). A sound cricketer ; hits hard and fields well . WOOD, C. W. A careful and painstaking bat, hitting well all round . M I D D L E S E X . BUCKLAND, F. M. (Eton and Oxford ). A very useful manall round , but was unfortunately not able to assist the county last season . BULLER, C. F. (Harrow). Drives very hard and plays the game thoroughly ; not a safe or smart field . Played very little in 1879 . FORD, W. J. (Repton and Cambridge ). A powerful hitter , greatly excelling in forward drives ; and likely to be another very useful acquisition to the county. FRANCIS , Č. K. (Rugby and Oxford ). At times a very successful fast round- arm bowler , but has lost much of his spin . Played little first -class cricket i n1 8 7 9.
