Asplendid field and sure catch ; a very danger- ous bat, hitting all -round well , without regard to recognised rules ; has lost muchof his effectiveness as a slow round-arm bowler, but still useful as a change. BLACKMAN, A. Played on a few occasions for the county, and proved a useful all -round man; can hit well ; is a good field ; and can bowl as a change . CUNLIFFE , C. M. (Rugby). At times a very effective medium-pace bowler , with a great break ; whenset gets runs fast . FOORD-KELCEY, W. (Eton and Oxford). A very dangerous bowler on a queer wicket ; very much improved as a bat; played some good innings for his county. HARRIS, Lord(Eton and Oxford). A fine bat, played splendid cricket through- out the season , and proved himself one of the best amateur batsmen of the day; was unable to play in August, and was much missed as captain . A good field ; is an enthusiastic cricketer . MACKINNON, F. A. (Harrow and Cambridge ). A very useful manto the county , being a steady and safe bat ; and a quick field . PENN, A. A good slow left -hand round -arm bowler , with plenty of judgment ; was of great service to the county ; though only moderate bat and good field. PENN, F. Proved himself to be one of the very best amateur batsmen of the day, having plenty of defence and very great hitting power ; a good and safe field ; made some long innings during the season ; his 134 for M.C.C. and Ground v. Cambridge Univ . at Lord's was a splendid innings . TUFNELL , C. F. (R. I. E. College ). A good all -round player ; a steady bat ; a very straight medium-pace bowler ; and a sure field ; played little during 1 8 7 9. YARDLEY , W. (Rugby and Cambridge ). Still a brilliant batsman , but did not play much during the past season . BLIGH, Hon. Ivo , and JONES , R. S. (Cambridge ). Play for Kent . L A N C A S H I R E . APPLEBY, A. A good left -hand bowler , with capital pace and very straight ; also an improved bat , and safe catch ; a valuable man in any eleven . BUTTERWORTH, W. E. (Castleton ). A good bat and field ; but did not repre- sent his county last season . CHADWICK, E. L. (Castleton ). A capital batsman with strong defence , cuts verý neatly , and hits to leg well ; is also a good field . HORNBY, A. N. (Harrow). Still maintains his position as highest average scorer for his county ; a brilliant batsman, having fine defence combined with great punishing powers ; a splendid field , and certain catch ; and can bowl with either arm; played in all county matches in 1879. JACKSON, E. Is still a first -class wicket-keeper , though he did not represent his county last season ; resides at Huyton, where he at times gives that clubthebenefitofhis services. KERSHAW, I, E. A very good batsman , but did not score so well during the past season ; a good field .
