A first -rate batsman, and a splendid field ; we hope he will play in all the county matches in 1880 ; resides in Derbyshire . G L O U C E S T E R S H I R E . BUSH, J. A. (Clifton ). As effective as any amateur wicket -keeper of the day, being very sure , especially in catches ; rarely misses a chance ; not suc- cessful as a bat , though he played one useful innings against Yorkshire at Sheffield. FAIRBANKS , W. (Clifton and Cambridge ). Useful all -round , being a neat bat andgoodfield . GILBERT, W. R. A very useful all -round player ; plays steady , sound cricket ; is a good field , and at times an effective slow round-arm bowler. GRACE, E. M. Avery effective bat , with a good eye for hitting , though playing in a style of his own; a splendid field , and without doubt still the best amateur point ; was not so successful for the county , but showed some fine hitting at Lord's in Mr. W. G. Grace's testimonial match. GRACE, G. F. A splendid all -round player ; a fine free bat with plenty of hitting power ; a fine field , a long and good thrower ; bowls fast round, butwas not tried enough with the ball . GRACE, W. G. Still showed himself without a rival as an all -round cricketer ; did not play at all in May, and only participated in first -class matches ; madesome fine scores towards the end of the season , and showed all his masterly command of the ball with the old freedom of hit and certainty of placing ; was again well in front in the batting averages of the year, andwasmost successful of the amateurs with the ball ; a most brilliant and energetic field . GRIBBLE, H. W. R. (Clifton ). A promising addition to the county ; a fine field , and is likely to improve with the bat. HATTERSLEY -SMITH , Rev. P. Did not play up to his form of 1878 , but none theless aneffective bat; not a brilliant field . HAYNES, C. E. (Clifton ). Bats in neat style ; is a good field , and a very useful change fast round-arm bowler. In 30th Regiment. MILES, R. F. (Marlborough and Oxford). Bowls left -round (slow), and very successful , though last season he did not prove so dangerous in the few matches in which he played as of old ; not a reliable batsman. MOBERLY, W. O. (Rugby and Oxford ). A first -class bat and brilliant field ; played good sound cricket throughout the season , and is a great acquisition to his county . TOWNSEND, F. A first -rate batsman , playing excellent cricket with good hitting power all -round ; a good and safe field , and very useful as a ' lob ' b o w l e r. H A M P S H I R E . BENCRAFT, R. Agood bat, hitting hard on the off side ; is a safe catch ; bowls occasionally . Воотн, С. (Rugby and Cambridge ). A good bat , getting runs quickly ; and still a fine field at long -leg . DUNCAN, D. A very safe bat, playing in rare style , and always getting runs ; a good long -stop ; and can also bowl .
