1 5 2 SAT 9181 LILLYWHITE'S CRICKETERS' ANNUAL H. G. S. Morant : somewhat slow in the field , but made some marvellous catches ; poor bat ; has been knownto bowl. T. E. A. Pearman (Captain 1880 ): could he conquer his nervousness on going in, would make a really good bat , his defence being good , and his hitting very clean ; splendid catch and out field ; did not come off as a bowler. S. B. Smith : a very steady little bat, useful manto send in first , generally seeing wickets down, although not scoring much himself ; sharp point . C. N. Trotman : a capital bat , with a very pretty style ; winner of average bat ; excellent long -stop . A. R. Witt (Captain 1879 ) : a thoroughly hard -working captain , to whom much of the success of the eleven is due , having only two ' old choices ' to start with ; did not meet with the success his batting deserved , although on one or two осса- sions he made runs just when most wanted; good field at mid-off, and could keep wicket very fairly .
