Hine-Haycock : has the best form anddefence in the eleven ; is weakin hitting on the leg side , but particu- larly strong to the off and on ; as wicket -keeper did good service . *H. M. R. Menzies : a good bat , hitting hard and well on the on side ; disappointed the previous year's expectations of him partly from want of energy and confidence ; a good point and fair change bowler . C. J. Willock : has improved in batting , bowled steadily and straight throughout the season , but has not been so suc- cessful in getting wickets as last year ; has distinguished himself in fielding . *D. G. Prendergast : a brilliant and pretty bat , cuts nicely and hits well though sometimes a little wildly ; fields briskly and well at cover -point . F. O. Ander- son : the best bowler (slow left ) in the eleven ; has a very effective break -back ; ' his services have been invaluable throughout the season ; a poor bat . *F. Stewart : began the season with a brilliant score , but was not so successful throughout ; bats in determined , but rather heavy style ; wants energy ; slow but sure in the field . S. H. B. Hobbs : a good , steady , and promising bat , plays in good form , and hits well to leg , but has weak defence ; is an excellent field with a quick. return . *W. H. Cooke : a neat bat , but wants nerve and patience ; a safe field , and a very promising wicket -keeper . A. de la C. Travers : generally safe for a few runs made by a few good hits ; must practise defence and style . J. L. Bristow : a steady and promising , but rather stiff bat ; has fielded brilliantly at times , but is rather uncertain . F. H. B.
