B. Taylor (Captain ) : bowls with a very remarkable twist , and would be exceedingly difficult if his pitch were more accurate ; as a bat, has not shown his form this year , which is more suited to a hard dry wicket ; has maintained his reputation in the field , and has shown great energy as captain . G. L. Whitworth (Captain for 1880) : a very hard hitter , but not so safe a bat as formerly ; a first -rate field , and very destructive fast bowler on his day; but has been somewhat unlucky in matches . W. G. Baker : a very promising bat, combining good defence with hitting power : a useful field at point , and might make a bowler with practice . A. L. Bristowe :
