Ford (Captain ) : a good chastiser of bad bowling , with fine driving powers, though but moderate defence . F. R. Marriott : a good fast overhand bowler; a steady but stiff bat with a good deal of defence ; brilliant field . *F. Napier : a hard hitter on the off side with poor defence ; a fair and deceр- tive slow bowler . J. F. Hastings : a good bat when set , but never reliable ; can field when he tries . W. A. J. Ford (Captain for 1880 ) : finds a slow wicket fatal ; has improved in the field . *G. M. Lambrick : a victim to weather and careless practice ; a good field , and useful fast bowler . *A. Н. Perkins : through poor nerve an unsuccessful bat . H. G. Topham : very destructive , left -hand slow bowler , with heaps of spin and some command of the ball . H. H. Dobinson : has not fulfilled our expectations ; good field and safe catch . *J. B.
