Ford (Captain ) : a good chastiser of bad bowling , with fine driving powers, though but moderate defence . F. R. Marriott : a good fast overhand bowler; a steady but stiff bat with a good deal of defence ; brilliant field . *F. Napier : a hard hitter on the off side with poor defence ; a fair and deceр- tive slow bowler . J. F. Hastings : a good bat when set , but never reliable ; can field when he tries . W. A. J.
