Newnham(Captain ) : good bat with plenty of defence and power of punishment ; good fast bowler and field ; has beenmuch hindered by an accident to his arm this season , otherwise would have done much more . * R. B. King : a really fine bat ; good defence and great hitting powers ; good field at cover -point , but a little wild in the return . * J. S. Watson : a very good bat, nearly always to be relied on for runs ; straight and good bowler ; slow and car less in the field . J. Hargreaves : a very goodbat, whenhe has got over his nervousness on going in ; cuts very well ; fair slow bowler with plenty of break ; brilliant field with excellent return . R. Thornhill : moderate bat ; has not improved so muchas expected ; has done excellent service in the eleven as wicket -keeper , seldom missing a
