C. Harrison (Captain ) : a good slow bowler , with extraordinary twist from the leg ; bats in nice style , but was not fortunate ; a good field ; he was unfortunately disabled during all the earlier matches, and the eleven felt the loss severely . * W. C. Johnston : was the best all-round manin the eleven , a steady bat , and improved very much in hitting at the end of the season ; avery useful slow bowler and good field . F. M. Reynolds : the fast bowler of the eleven ; he was wonderfully successful on several occasions ; a moderate bat ; fields well (Captain for 1880 ). H. S. Cooper : is a lively bat, cutting well , and a very fine field . W. O. Vizard : rather disappointing as a bat ; has nice style , but was very muchwanting in vigour ; fielded well at point . B. D. Carey : bats steadily but wants more dash ; a fair change bowler and good field . * A. F. Pinhey : is a steady , pains- taking bat , and fielded well. * J. G. Bradshaw : has a bad habit of leaving his ground to play forward , which did not suit the wet ground ; batted success- fully at the end of the season ; a good field . W. P. Richardson : is a very promising wicket -keeper , and ought to be first -rate if he takes pains ; he disap- pointed expectation as a bat . *W. Hoste : is a fair bat and agood long -stop . A. J. Carstairs : is likely to makeavery good bat in time , as he has nice style and plenty of dash and hitting powers ; fields well , E T O NC O L L E G E . Captain for 1879, C. T. Studd.
