Owing to the dispute relatisve to Midwinter‘s playing for Gloucestershire for Surre at the Oval, instead of for the Australians v. Middlesex, at Lord‘s, it was fearc at one time that this matcli woixld not come off. Matters were subsequently arranged though, and then strangely enough Midwinter, who had hurt his hand ill the motels between Gloucestershire v. England at the Oval, was unable to represent his county. Great interest was attached to this special contest, but the Australians were thoroughly on their mettle, and us the Gloucestersliir-e fieldiiig was very much below its usual standard, the Colonists were in luck. The stronfi;l battilig Eleven of Gloucestersliire were all dismissed by Spofi'orth, Boyle, an Garrett for 112 and 85. A return matcli was commenced on the conclusion of the above. Score :— M.
