The ball must be bit before the Bounds to entitle the Striker to a run, which run cannot be obtained unless he touch the bowling stump or crease in a line with his hat, or some part of his person, or go beyond them ; returning . to the popping-crease as at Double \Vicket, according to the zist Law. III. Wlten the Striker shall hit the ball, one of his feet must be on the ground and behind the popping-crease, otherwise the Umpire shall call “ No Hit.” IV. When there shall be less than fivc players on a side neither Byes nor Overthrows shall be allowed, nor shall the Striker be cauglit out behind the wicket, nor stumped out. V. The fieldsman must retum the ball so that it shall cross the play between the wicket am] the bowling stump, or between the bowling stump and the bounds ; the Striker may run till the ball be so returned. VI. After the Striker shall have made one run. it he start again, he must touch the bowling stump, and turn before the ball cross the play to entitle him to another. VII. The Striker shall be entitled to three runs for lest hall, and the same number for ball stopped with bat, with reference to the 28tli and 33rd laws of Double TVickets. VIII. When there shall be more than four players on a side there shall be no bounds. All Hits, Eyes, and Over-throws shall then he allowed. IX. The Bowler is subject to the same laws as at Double YVickct. X. No more than one minute shall be allowed between each ball. BETS. I. No bet upon any match is payable unlcss played out or givctt up. 11. If the runs ofonc player he hetted against those of another, the bet depends on the first innings, unless otherwise specifietl. III. If the bet he made on hotli innings, any one part}' beating the other in one innings, the runs of the first innings shall determineit. IV. If the other party go in a second time, then the bet must be determined by the number on the score, LAWS OF COUNTY CRICKET. That no cricketer, whether amateur or professional, shall play for more than one county during the snare season. II. Every cricketer born in one county and residing in another shall be free to choose at the commencement of each season for which of those counties he will play, and shall, during that season, play' for that county only. III. Acricketer shall be qualified to play for any county in which he is re- siding, and has resided. for the previous two years; or- a cricketer may elect to play' for the county in which his family home is, so long as it remains open to rim as an occasional residence.
