Orncnns FOR 1878.—Presidmruml Trmslu'z‘r, Mr. M. J. Ellison. Gonunilleo, Messrs, E. T. Atkin, A. Tnfield, J. T. Dubh, F. S. Atkin. R. Benton, R. Gillott, J. Chester, E. Gun-ill, J. M. Hihhert. R. Wxgfnll, H. Stretfoxd, S. L. Levick, C. Stokes, and M. J. Ellismi, jun. Hon. Sm, J. B. Wostinholm, 10, Norfolk Bow Sheffield. Yorkshire did not come so well out of the trial of 1878 as might have been ex— pected from the strength of the team on paper. A County that can boost the possesmon of such players as Ulyett, Lockwood, Ennnett, Hall, Bates. Hill, Armitnge, P1nder,oughtto have had a. better return than seven wins and five losses out of oprog—rnmme of fourteen contests. Ulyett played truly brilliant cricket throughout, but Lockwood wns not in his best form, and Emmett, very successful in batting at first, fell off towards the end of the season. In Louis Hall the County has the most promising young professioliul batsman of (he dn , and iii Bates the most likely young bowler, so likely that some have designated im the u coming Alfred Shaw." E
