The results of lxT-‘l C0u1(i hardly be regarded as satisfactory for this once almost invineillle shire. Mr. Strachau‘s absence from the majority of the mutclles left the Elevell without one of the best captains a County team: has ever had. Illness deprived the Elevell of the valuable aid of Mr. Lucas ull scvcl’lll occasions but Messrs. Gmne and Akroyd were rarely seen, and business engage- ments always prevent Mr. Read from playing till the end. of July. Ill bowling, with only Burrzltt and Soutllcrtell really dangerous, ' ld with Mr. linen: and Johnson and Street as the olllyehanges. the Elevcll were painfully weak. but, in batting, could they only have collected their full strength, with Messrs. Lucas. Read. Game, Akroyd, the brothers Sllntcr, Lindsay and J upp, there wzls plenty of strengtll, zllld with a bowler or tn‘o who could only bat a little as well, the County would be able to place a. formidable Eleven into the field. In Mr. . Shuter Surrey fomld a sterling batsman and a thorough crieketel‘, and we shall look forward even to better things from him ill the future. Results of Matches. .lluiclll's Plug/HI. l'.’: mu.
