Alcock, Surrey Ground, Kennington Oval, London, S .E . The revival of Surrey was the most noticeable feature of the county season of 1877. The co-operation of all the chief amateurs, with Mr. Strachan at their head, gave an infusion of energy into the team that proved of immense service. The marvellous defence of Mr. A . P. Lucas, the effective batting of Messrs. Read, Game, Lindsay, L . A . Shuter, Akroyd, and Jupp’s unwearied jxitiencc, stood Surrey in good stead, and, in conjunction with more changes of bowling than in previous years, an able captain, and a generally brilliant field, enabled Surrey to show a more prosperous summary than has been the case for many years.
