O f f ic e r s for 1877.— President, Sir Henry Bromley, Stoke Hall, Newark. Vice-President, Mr. W. E. Denison, M.P. Committee, Messrs. C. Thorn ton, M. Mason, Cl W . Oates, G. Fillingliam, the Mayor of Nottingham, R . H. Steegmann, G. E. M. Riddell, J. Wilkinson, C. Oscroft, W . Wright. Hon. Secretary and Treasurer, Capt. Holden, Bramcotc, Notts.^ Assistant Secretary , Mr. E. Browne, Imperial Buildings, Victoria Street, Nottingham. O f the first six matches played by the Nottingham eleven, five were won and one lost. Of ihe remaining six, four were lost, three of them by very large majorities and two drawn, one altogether against them, the other cer tainly not in their favour. Owing to an attack of bronchitis after his return from Australia, Alfred Shaw was only able to play in two matches, and his absence left the team in a very enfeebled state. Towards the last, indeed, the cricket all round was lamentably weak, the bowling harmless, the batting un reliable and the fielding loose and wanting in dash. Daft and Shrewsbury were out of all form with the bat, Oscroft, Wild, Selby and Barnes played in anything but their best form, and the eleven altogether gave one the impres sion of being stale and overworked. Of late years the youngsters have not been up to the old standard of Nottingham Colts, and the result of the last season was anything but encouraging to those who remember the collective strength of Notts a few years ago.
