On March 31, 1877, at Clapham Common, Mr. George llnn ison , of the Grosvenor C . s e c u r e d of the Clapham United wickets out of ten in six overs and four halls for nine runs. During the season J. Newton, of the St. Andrew ’s Institute, four times took three wickets with successive b a l ls ; for same Club against Junior Marylebone he had eight wickets (all howled) for nine runs, and in all took 70 wickets for 190 runs. For l.ausanne v. Croydon G. W . Marsden in nine overs took eight wickets for four runs. For the Waverley Club during the season of 1877, R. Colthrup delivered 1,305 balls, 80 maiden overs, for 336 runs 101 wickets and 6 wides, an average o f 3.33 runs per wicket. For Oswestry, W D. Owen bowled 2,097 halls for 536 runs and 112 wickets (average 4.88), T. F. Williams bowled 1,066 balls for 317 runs and 76 wickets (average 4.13 runs per wicket). On 26th September, at Upton for North London Railway, H. Armstrong for the second time during the season took three wickets with three successive balls. On May 5, at Caledonian Road, for Borough Albion against Finsbury, J. Iveillor bowled 26 balls (four maidens) for 8 wickets and no runs ; the Finsbury Eleven only making five runs, four from the bat. In the return match between Gloucestershire and Notts at Cheltenham on August 13, in the second innings of Notts, Mr. W . G. Grace’s last forty-one balls were delivered for one run and seven wickets, and the last twenty-five of these obtained the seven wickets without even a run from them. A t Clifton on the following day against Yorkshire, in the first innings W . G. took the last eight Yorkshire wickets in ten overs, and the last six batsmen for only the same nun.ber of runs. For M. C .C . & Ground v. Oxford University, at Oxford, Morley’s analysis showed 33 overs and 1 ball for 14 runs and 13 wickets. At HerongateA Burghes, of the Middlesex Eleven, delivered 14 overs (12 maidens) for 2 runs and 7 wickets. For the Cam Wanderers against Tetbury, Mr. J. Cranston, o f the Gloucestershire Eleven, in 15 balls got 3 wickets without a run, for Clifton against Sneyd Park, Mr. P . Hammond, 6 wickets in seven overs for no runs. Five batsmen o f the Civil Service Supply Association fell to Harper o f the A rm y and Navy Stores, without a run amongst them ; and F . Steele twice got wickets at an average of less than aruna-piece, taking 7 Crosse and B lackwell’s for Hovenden’s at a cost o f 6, and 6 for 5 runs on be ha lf o f the Norfolk Alliance against Putney. A . Speight, for Bury, had 6 wickets of the Ashton Press without a run in four overs, and in the same match, for the same side, J . Taylor took four wickets for two runs. George H ay (Derbyshire), on April 28, for Elland, secured eight wickets, 4 in 4 balls; anil twice later he had three batsmen with 3 successive balls, taking on the first occasion, for Elland v.
