The former’s 179 wickets, at an average of 1 2\ runs per wicket, is a very great performance considering the batsmen he has had to meet, and the same terms may be 1 • 1 < . 1 ^ i 1 C l T 1 . . 1 a x r 1 1 V I r C * 1 ^ 1 f A~X/> « . r I IT % applied to the fast left-handed bowler of Derbyshire. George Heame’s io~ wickets, at an average of ii-5> is i11 point of figures the best show, but he only bowled a little more than half the number of overs delivered by Mr. Grace, and he had not to trundle in so many good matches. Mr. Appleby’s 19 wickets .were got at a very small cost ; and among the other amateurs Messrs. Buckland, Henderson, A . F. Lucas, M les, Ridley, and Patterson were the most successful. Armitage, W illiam M ‘Intyre, and Watson were especially prominent among the professionals ; and of the rest Emmett, Hickton, Midwinter, Morley, Ry lott, and Southerton came out the best.
